Large numbers of listeners tune in to community radio each month. Community radio provides alternative programming,stimulating debate,provides for the expression of differing ideas based on informed social justice,multiculturalism,environment,the arts and,of course,music.
2XXfm gives a voice to those who otherwise cannot be heard,we respond to the social and cultural needs of Canberra’s diverse community and we encourage innovation in all forms of expression. 2XXfm produces a wide range of talk and/or specialist music programs aimed at servicing the interests of the wider Canberra community. We aim to promote a sense of ethics,intellectual integrity and open mindedness through programming,regardless of age,ethnic or class or other backgrounds.
The ‘heart’ of 2XXfm is our dedicated volunteers that keep the station broadcasting loud and clear. We invite people to volunteer and contribute to the station and provide Work Experience opportunities to school leavers who gain work force skills and responsibilities and gain confidence in areas of marketing and promotions.
Did you know that 2XXfm is almost entirely run by volunteers? As well as on-air presentation and pre-production,there are many other useful roles you can be a part of. Here are some of the tasks we do.-
● answering the phone and help with important messages ● manage emails ● greet and inform visitors ● publicize 2XX &our events ● keep subscriber records up to date ● help with our newsletter Communiqué ● source prizes for our subscribers ● write announcements for presenters ● produce recorded promos for community groups ● load music into 2XX’s audio server computer ● present local community news ●assist with Outside Broadcasts ● and more!
Most only involve a few hours a week. If you can help out regularly and can work at your own pace without much supervision,we’d be very happy to get you started. 2XXfm is committed to providing a good work environment and supporting and recognizing everyone’s efforts
We provide training in radio for people interested in all its varied aspects. We encourage individualism and integrity in journalism and quality in presentation. Our training program suits people of all ages and skill levels. Training includes;program development,on-air announcing,presentation,basic legal aspects and the use of modern equipment.
2XXfm also stages events that include local performers and assist businesses in networking. We also undertake various fundraising activities which often include music performances,prizes and giveaways.

Keep an ear open throughout the year for when we team up with clubs and pubs like “The Phoenix” and “Toast”,or “The National Folk Festival” and “The Merry Muse” for a quiz night,or with the Dendy Cinemas complex.
