On Sunday 26 May at 12:30PM, the Reel McCoy Film Group will screen the 1982 film, “Heatwave”. As Sydney endures an oppressive summer, an architect is hired to design an ambitious redevelopment project in the inner city. Working class residents resist their displacement and are mobilised by an idealistic activist. Inspired by the still unsolved real-life murder of Juanita Nielsen, “Heatwave” blends neo-noir sensibilities with the radical politics of the 1970s, and commemorates a world that has since been utterly erased by gentrification.
