On Sunday 8 October at 12:30PM, the Reel McCoy Film Group will screen “Ikuru”, a 1952 film directed by Akira Kurosawa. The plot follows Mr Watanabe, a bureaucrat who has worked at Tokyo City Hall for more than thirty years without accomplishing anything. He learns he is dying and realises that he has never really been alive. Now he must learn how to confront death and how to find meaning in his life. In 2022, the film was remade as the British film “Living” which starred Bill Nighy.
