On Sunday 8 June at 12:30PM, the Reel McCoy Film Group is showing the 1962 American film, “Lolita”, based on the controversial novel by Vladimir Nabakov. The book concerns an academic who becomes obsessed with his landlady’s teenage daughter, and invites us to see the resulting tragedy from his point of view. In 1953, no reputable publisher would touch the book, but it became a bestseller anyway; by 1962, MGM was more than eager to distribute the movie. The film stars James Mason and Sue Lyon, and was directed by Stanley Kubrick.
