On Sunday 14 July at 12:30PM, the Reel McCoy Film Group will screen the 1968 film, “The Lion in Winter”. English king Henry II gathers his family together for Christmas in 1183. The guests include his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine, temporarily freed from house arrest, accompanied by their sons, Richard, Geoffrey and John. When Phillip II of France and his sister are included in the guest list, the proceedings deteriorate into complex power plays over inheritance of lands and the throne. The film won three awards at the 1969 Oscars.
